VOLUNTEER

Help us maintain this beautiful West Virginia trail!

What Do You Do?

Workdays may involve new trail construction or maintenance of existing trail and shelters. Work may include using a rake and mattock to dig new trail treads and remove small roots. Clearing brush, moving logs, picking up debris, cooking food, and maintaining the fire at camp are also workday activities.

Our workdays are suitable for all types of experience levels. Volunteers are friendly and eager to share their knowledge, so even if you’ve never worked on a trail, we welcome you to come out and lend a hand.

All chainsaw operators must be certified to work on the ALT.  We offer certification classes once a year, usually in the fall, and the section coordinators will share that information with you if you are interested.

Tools are supplied, but bringing your own is encouraged.

Be Prepared

What you should bring to workdays on the trail:

  • Outdoor working clothes

  • Working gloves

  • Hiking boots

  • Sunscreen

  • Water jug

  • Packed lunch

  • Label your personal tools

We do our best to provide Saturday dinner for the volunteers at weekend work events.
